Glad you enjoyed it Alex.

I’m just trying to tame the wild west of supply chains 😉

This is a great summary of supply chain for small businesses. Thanks for putting it together.

Supply Chains are really what drives the business. Marketing, finance, and customer service are all vital, but unless you can actually deliver on what you promise, nothing else matters. One reason Apple is so successful isn’t just their products, but the ability to consistently deliver those products to the world seamlessly.

I would encourage small businesses to not get overwhelmed by thinking they need to invest in huge warehouses and systems right away. A lot of companies offer distribution services that allow you to build up as businesses grow with minimal investment.

Another key to building a supply chain is preparing for problems. I would highly recommend finding multiple upstream vendors for materials, which will avoid letting down customers when one source fails.

Good luck to you Thom – and everyone else embarking on supply chains. It’s an exciting challenge.
